 | CLAUDE MONET was born in Paris on the 14th of November, 1840. In 1863, He joined the studio of Charles Gleyre. There, Monet was to meet three very close and influential friends: Frédéric Bazille, Auguste Renoir and Alfred Sisley. The unifying force that was to bind the group was the commitment and intense dedication to their new approach to art, eventually labeled impressionism. This new group broke the tradition of their predecessor's paintings by replacing subdued colors and dark shadows with open spaces and sunlight. He met several important people and he became financially secure for the first time in his life. With this new found luxury, Monet devoted himself to gardening which, in turn, provided a motif for the painter's last important series of works, The Water Lilies. Monet was absorbed in this project almost exclusively from 1900 until his death in 1926. Category: Set Brand: Acme Price: $67
